Raised in Chicago with a background in jazz and contemporary music, Genna moved to LA in 2011 to attend USC's Thornton School of Music. Since then, she has studied bass with Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report, Santana, Phil Collins), performed on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and embarked on international tours with artists spanning many genres. Currently, she is the touring bass player for Alex Lahey (indie rock) and Rett Madison (singer-songwriter, War Buddha Records/Warner Records).
When the pandemic shut down live music, she pivoted to virtual session work, private lessons, on-camera instruction for the Fender Play app, and bass content on TikTok that has amassed her over 20,000 followers. When sheβs not on the road, sheβs playing locally in LA with artsits including Talker and Tiny Stills.
Gennaβs versatility as a player is showcased throughout the wide array of studio recordings she has appeared on. She played bass on two of Liv Slingerland EPs, the first of which was engineered by Keith Armstrong (Green Day, Rebelution) and the second of which was produced and engineered by Mike Pepe (Taking Back Sunday). Most recently, she wrote and recorded bass for Alex Laheyβs next album, produced by Chris Walla (formerly of Death Cab for Cutie).
Currently, Genna is teaching private lessons and continuing to perform around the Los Angeles area. She is available for live performances, recording sessions, video shoots, and tours.
